Aztecs win 2, while other local teams suffer losses

Two victories last week improved the Soledad High volleyball teams record to 3-1 in the Mission Trail Athletic League and 5-3 overall. Other South County teams, however, suffered losses this past week.

Gonzales Spartans lose heartbreaker, 28-27

Payton Flores ran for 130 yards and scored touchdowns but it was not enough as the Gonzales Spartan football team was edged 28-27 in Santa Cruz County in a game with the Soquel Knights.

Breakers and Cougars sweep Spartans

The Gonzales High tennis team lost a pair of matches last week, dropping contests to the visiting Pacific Grove Breakers and the Santa Catalina Cougars.

LITTLE BIG WIN

Clay Barbree and Cedrick Perez combined to score five touchdowns as the King City Mustangs beat the visiting Gonzales Spartans 33-12 in the Little Big Game on Friday at War Memorial Stadium.

Runners compete at Earlybird Invitational

Cross country runners from Gonzales, Greenfield, and King City joined over 70 teams and 2000 plus runners at the Earlybird Invitational Cross Country Meet.

South County teams run at invitational

The Greenfield High varsity boys cross country team placed third in their division at the Chieftain-Spirit Classic Invitational on Saturday at Toro Regional Park in Salinas. The meet featured over 700 runners competed in three divisions for the boys and girls.

GUHS tennis hits the courts

The Gonzales High School girls tennis team completed the non-league schedule last week with matches against the York School Falcons and the Everett Alvarez Eagles.

Breakers down Spartans, 13-6

Second half scores by the Pacific Grove Breakers sent the host Gonzales Spartans to a 13-6 home loss at Dick Force Stadium.

Horned Toads run by Gonzales, 48-14

A potent running game and a short field was all the Coalinga High Horned Toads needed to defeat the Gonzales Spartans on Friday at Dick Force Stadium. Coalinga improved to 2-0 after the 48-14 win and Gonzales fell to 0-2 in non-league play.

King City volleyball team improves to 3-0

Led by the double-digit performances in kills and assists by Grace Shepherd and Megan Flores, the King City Lady Mustang volleyball team defeated the North Salinas Vikings and Seaside Spartans to improve to 3-0 at the start of non-league play.
