The Fairview Middle School Wrestling team from Gonzales placed sixth out of 14 teams at Saturday’s David Raptis Wrestling Invitational that was hosted by Washington Middle School.

At the end of his sixth game as Gonzales head football coach, Arthur Berlanga was raised off the ground by Pablo Ayala in a bear hug to celebrate the Spartans first victory of the year and first of the Berlanga era.

Eight wrestlers from the Fairview Middle School Warrior wrestling team from Gonzales won medals at Saturday’s Eye of the Tiger Wrestling Tournament at San Benito High School in Hollister.

With eight wrestlers winning individual weight classes the Gonzales High School wrestling team won the school’s 20th Mission Trail Athletic League Championship on Thursday at Pacific Grove High School.
