Runners compete in MTAL Center Meet

In a preview of the upcoming Mission Trail Athletic League Cross Country Championships, the Greenfield boys teams won the varsity boys, JV boys and frosh boys divisions.

South County teams complete league season

The regular season ends this week for local high school volleyball teams as Mission Trail Athletic League games were played on Monday and today. King City has two games remaining and will be seeded on Saturday in the Central Coast Section Division IV Playoffs.

The Gonzales High tennis team played well in a 5-2 loss to York, winning a singles and doubles match last Thursday on the Spartan courts.

Spartans beat Bruins on Senior Night, 28-14

Two Gonzales Spartans rushed for over 100 yards apiece and quarterback Raul Morales threw for 100 yards in a 28-14 win at the Greenfield High Senior Night game.

King City takes gold

Four wins on Saturday earned the King City Lady Mustang volleyball team the championship of the Gold Division at Saturday’s Everett Alvarez Volleyball Tournament in Salinas.

The Gonzales tennis team fought hard in a 7-0 setback against Oakwood. The Spartans scored multiple points for most of the singles and doubles matches.

Locals place at Monterey Bay Invitational

Cross country runners from all four South County high schools traveled to Toro Regional Park in Salinas to run in the Monterey Bay Invitational.

At the end of his sixth game as Gonzales head football coach, Arthur Berlanga was raised off the ground by Pablo Ayala in a bear hug to celebrate the Spartans first victory of the year and first of the Berlanga era.

Greenfield teams win Valley Meet

Led by first place finishers Luis Meza and Maria Hernandez the Greenfield boys and girls won the varsity divisions of the Valley Meet on Thursday at King City’s San Lorenzo Park. The cross country meet featured South County teams Greenfield, Soledad and host King City.

Stevenson sweeps Gonzales, 7-0

The Robert Louis Stevenson Pirate tennis team swept the Gonzales singles and doubles team 7-0 last Monday afternoon in Pebble Beach.
