SOUTH COUNTY — The Greenfield High softball team split their league games as they defeated visiting York and lost to the Gonzales Spartans. The Lady Bruins beat the York Falcons 18-1 on Friday and lost 7-1 earlier in the week to Gonzales.

In the win over York Andrea Diaz started at pitcher and helped her own cause with four runs batted in. Norma Ornelas had two RBI’s and Miranda Zuniga hit a homerun and finished with four RBI’s.

In the Gonzales game Andrea Pantoja, Ariel Carrillo, Vanessa Contreras, Deina Pavon, and Bianca Alvarez had hits for Greenfield.

“It was a game where we started out solid and then had a bad inning,” said Greenfield head coach Cindy Lopez. “We left too many base runners stranded on base when they were in scoring position.”

For Gonzales Sofia Prieto earned the pitching win and went 2×4 at the plate and Bell Arreola and Madeline Rodriguez contributed with hits for the Spartans. The game was the only game of the week in Coastal League play as the rest of the games were rained out. King City returns to action this week after having their scheduled games rained out.
