SOLEDAD — After an excellent regular season that led to the Soledad Aztecs winning their first-ever Cypress Division title, the reward keeps coming in as long-time coach Eric Rodriguez was elected to serve as head coach for the Central Coast High School All-Star Football Game.

“I’m super excited to coach again in the all-star game. The previous four were as an assistant, but this time will be as a head coach, which is awesome,” Rodriguez said. “The opportunity to see the best football players in the two counties come together is super exciting for the young staff here in Soledad, who will coach an all-star game for the first time. It’s a great opportunity.”

During the season, Rodriguez served as assistant head coach/defensive coordinator, with the Aztecs defense only giving up 11 points per game.

Joining Rodriguez will be the rest of the Soledad staff, including Soledad High alum David Cruz, who played in this game during his time as an Aztec. He will serve as the offensive coordinator.

That’s not all the help that Rodriguez will also be getting. Joining him for this game will be the Greenfield Bruins coaching staff, which helped their team to a 5-1 record.

Due to weather, the Central Coast High School All-Star Football Game will now be played on Jan. 28 at Rabobank Stadium in Salinas.
