GONZALES — Six individuals and a team were inducted into the 2026 Gonzales High School Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday night at Laguna Seca Golf Club.
The Aug. 15 event began with appetizers and music, followed by a full-course meal before the awards program. Fidencio Cuevas and Larry Rodriguez of the Spartan 300 Club started by taking a moment of silence in memory of Sean Hileman and Steve Wiley.
Hileman, who died earlier this year, was a former teacher and athletic director at Gonzales High. Wiley, a 1975 Spartan graduate, was an integral member of the Hall of Fame selection committee before his death just two weeks ago.
Cuevas then voiced his thoughts on the excitement of the Hall of Fame event.
“The Spartan 300 was honored to host the legends of Spartan athletics, and that they were joined by their families and friends,” Cuevas said. “Laguna Seca Ranch was a beautiful setting and they served a delicious dinner. We had a fantastic time celebrating our inductees who span over 80 decades. It was a surprise to have visitors from as far away as Michigan and Arizona come join the celebration. We had a video created of all the inductees answering several questions about their most influential figures in their lives and what legacy they leave to Spartan athletics.”
After the video presentation, awards were presented to the following athletes: Randy Vosti (for Stan Hiserman, track world record and coaching achievements); Rosa Ramirez (for volleyball, basketball and softball achievements); Ignacio Guzman (for football and track achievements); Juan Guzman (for football, basketball and track achievements); Jesus Santos (for football, track and coaching achievements); Theotis Daniels (for football and track achievements); and the 2007 Gonzales boys soccer team (as winners of the Central Coast Section title).
Diane Ipong-Gonzales, a volunteer and 1979 Gonzales High graduate, praised the Spartan 300 Club for hosting a successful event.
“I had a great time,” said Ipong-Gonzales. “Too bad I got bidded out on the golf basket, but everything was very high end. The atmosphere was beautiful, the food was tasty and the event was a hit.”
At the conclusion of the Hall of Fame celebration, the inductees had large photos of themselves signed by their friends and family for keepsakes.
“We are thankful to be supported by past and present Gonzales administrators, Mr. John Macias, Dr. Michael Mansfield and Superintendent Keith Thornbahn,” Cuevas said. “It was a great night to showcase the rich history of Gonzales athletics.”
