The Gonzales High tennis team is 2-1 in league after a road loss to Christopher High in Gilroy and a home win against the Gilroy High Mustangs. Gonzales lost 5-2 to Christopher and beat Gilroy High by a 7-0 last Thursday on the Spartan tennis courts.

Wanting to make a statement after an undefeated preseason, the Gonzales High football team did just that, crushing the visiting Soquel Knights 54-7 on Friday night at Dick Force Stadium.

The Gonzales High varsity volleyball team won their first game in the Pacific Coast Athletic Leagues Cypress Division, beating the visiting North Monterey County Condors, 25-17, 17-25, 25-14 and 25-10.

The Hollister Haybaler JV football team broke open a one-point game to defeat the Gonzales Spartababes 28-19 on Friday at Dick Force Stadium.

Divisional play began last week for the Gonzales High girls volleyball team in the Cypress Division.

Fourth quarter fireworks by the Gonzales Spartan football team led to a 34-23 victory over host Pacific Grove that snapped a 15-game losing streak to the Breakers last Friday at Breaker Stadium.

The Gonzales High girls tennis team was busy last week with scrimmages against Everett Alvarez and North Salinas. The Spartans played a total of three scrimmages last week.

The visiting Everett Alvarez High Eagles defeated the Gonzales High Spartans — 25-16, 25-10 and 25-14 — in the non-league opener for both teams last Thursday in the Roger Fernando Gym in Gonzales.
