SOLEDAD — The Rotary Club of Soledad hosted the inaugural Touching Tractors and Trucks event at the Soledad High School parking lot last Saturday.
The hands-on community event allowed children and adults to explore a total of 34 large vehicles, including tractors and a robotic lawnmower, while meeting operators and learning about the machinery that helps power the region.
“What a turnout with all of that equipment,” said Soledad Rotary Club member Tim Vanoli. “All of that technology is starting to integrate with agriculture and construction, as well.”
Proceeds benefited the Rotary Club of Soledad community and youth initiatives.
The Rotary Interact Club at Soledad High assisted with the Passport Program, where children went around getting stamps on a passport card for a chance to get a gift card to Grocery Outlet or a pass for the pool at the Soledad-Mission Recreation District.
Members of Soledad High’s Future Farmers of America were also on hand to help set up.
The April 25 event featured local vendors, such as Sweets N Treats by Angie, Holly Macaronz and Nana’s Matcha. The Soledad Warriors cheer squad also had a booth selling mini pancakes, shaved ice and popcorn.
“I thought it was great for the first time,” said Vanoli, who was the former Soledad Unified School District superintendent. “Everybody was happy, they went away with a big smile.”
