KING CITY — King City Police Department responded to a report of a subject breaking into an occupied apartment in the 300 block of S. Vanderhurst Avenue on Feb. 9 at about 6:20 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers learned the subject had walked away from the apartment after being confronted by the residents. A description of the subject was provided to responding police who searched the area.

Officers located a subject, later identified as 24-year-old Bernardino Alvarez Velasco of Greenfield, matching the description of the subject. They attempted to stop Velasco, but he walked away.

After following him and numerous commands for him to stop, police said Velasco eventually complied and was taken into custody without incident.

“Velasco was positively identified as the subject who broke into the apartment,” police said.

Velasco was arrested and booked into the Monterey County Jail for residential burglary, resisting arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia and probation violation.
