GONZALES — With wins over Greenfield and Trinity Christian, the Gonzales High softball is in first place in the Coastal League with a 5-1 record. Gonzales defeated the second place Greenfield Bruins by a 8-6 score and downed the Anzar Hawks 20-2.
Last Tuesday in Gonzales the Lady Bruins collected 16 hits and the home Spartans had nine hits in the high scoring affair. Andrea Diaz started the game for Greenfield and last six innings allowing nine hits and eight runs while striking out four. Diaz, Ariel Carrillo, Miranda Zuniga, Norma Ornales, and Andrea Pantoja all had multiple hits for Greenfield. Diaz and Pantoja led Greenfield with three hits apiece. Greenfield is 4-2 in the Coastal League and 6-4 overall.
Mireya Salinas led Gonzales with three hits and three RBI’s and Sofia Prieto was the winning pitcher. Jasmin Flores contributed with a pair of hits and RBI’s and Mia Flores had a basehit.
In their second league game of the week the Spartans pounded out multiple hits in the 20-2 win over the Anzar Hawks. Jasmin Flores and Mireya Salinas led the Gonzales hitters in RBI’s and hits.
At King City the Greenfield Bruins got on the board in the first inning as Aligha Ramey doubled scoring two runs. Andrea Diaz earned the 5-2 win for Greenfield.
“We saw the ball well today, racking up 13 hits,” said Greenfield head coach Cindy Lopez. “Andrea Pantoja, Aligha Ramey, Ariel Carrillo, and Andrea Diaz all managed multiple hits. Pantoja led us with three hits in four at bats, including two triples and two runs batted in.”
King City completed the week with a 15-5 win over the Trinity Christian Warriors. The Lady Mustangs are 4-4 in league and 5-8 overall.
