SALINAS VALLEY — The King City, Soledad and Gonzales volleyball teams are still unbeaten as the non-league schedule continues.
Last week, King City defeated visiting Valley Christian Academy of Santa Maria in three games; Soledad won its second and third games of the season by beating visiting North Salinas and host Marina; and Gonzales is 2-0 after a 3-1 victory at home against Marina.
In the King City Mustangs’ win over Valley Christian, Avery Munoz led the way with 16 kills and eight digs, while Bri Zamora and Ella Rubbo each had five kills and two blocks. Jocelyn Jacquez had 13 digs and three aces, and Taelyn Munoz and Mily Paramo combined for 32 assists and five aces for the Mustangs.
King City played at Santa Catalina in Monterey on Tuesday and will host the Carmel Padres on Thursday night in the Mustang gym.
The Soledad Aztecs downed North Salinas by a 3-0 score last Tuesday and finished the week with a 3-2 victory over Marina on the road.
In the North Salinas game, Dulce Reyes led Soledad with 10 kills, while teammates Kaylee Anderson added nine kills and Delylah Ocampo had seven kills and added eight service aces. Anderson had a game-high 16 kills in the Marina game and Ilene Corina finished with 19 assists for the Aztecs.
In scheduled games this week, Soledad hosted St. Francis of Watsonville on Tuesday night and plays at Greenfield on Thursday.
In their only game of the week, Gonzales downed Marina by a 3-1 score last Tuesday. Maricruz Bibriesca led Gonzales with 15 kills and added four service aces. Ava Mireles had seven kills, five digs and six service aces, while Alitzel Mauro-Perez finished with a team-high 17 assists and five digs, and Breyannalee Tello added 13 digs and two service aces.
The Spartans will not play again until a Sept. 17 game at home with Robert Louis Stevenson. Then, on Saturday, Sept. 19, Gonzales will host the Gonzales Spartan Spikefest.
Greenfield was off last week but was back in action Tuesday with a home game against Coast Union (Cambria) and will play at Coast Union on Thursday in Cambria.
