Greenfield honors first responders with appreciation breakfast
GREENFIELD — South Monterey County first responders and local residents are invited to a special appreciation breakfast Friday, Sept. 11, commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
The Greenfield First Responders Special Appreciation Breakfast will be held from 8 to 10 a.m. at Greenfield Memorial Hall, 615 El Camino Real. The event will honor local first responders for their courage, commitment and service to the community. The breakfast is open to South County first responders and local residents.
The event is being held on the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, which killed nearly 3,000 people and prompted a nationwide outpouring of support for first responders.
Community garden cleanup scheduled in Gonzales
GONZALES — Live Well Project will host a Community Garden Cleanup Day from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12, at the Gonzales Community Garden, at the corner of Elko Street and Fairview Drive.
Community members are invited to help maintain and beautify the garden while learning basic gardening and cleanup tips. The event is free and open to everyone, including both experienced gardeners and those new to gardening.
The event is being held in partnership with the City of Gonzales, Resource Conservation District of Monterey County, Save the Whales and Salinas Valley Health.

Wreaths Across America booth set for Saturday
KING CITY — Wreaths Across America will have an information and donation booth from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12, at the King City Center near Safeway.
The booth, sponsored by the Southern Monterey County Republican Women Federated, will offer information and applications for those wishing to donate toward wreaths for veterans’ graves. The cost is $17 per wreath this year.
The annual Wreaths Across America ceremony to place wreaths at veterans’ graves at King City Cemetery is scheduled for Dec. 19.

Soledad seeks input on community resilience center
SOLEDAD — City of Soledad is seeking community input as it plans for the future transformation of the Soledad Community Center into a Community Resilience Center.
The proposed center could provide emergency shelter, resources and support during extreme heat, wildfires, smoke, floods and power outages, while offering year-round programs and services for residents.
City officials are asking residents to complete a survey to help identify the resources, services and programs that would be most valuable to the community. Potential features include cooling and clean-air spaces, emergency backup power, solar energy and battery storage, emergency communications, food and water distribution, health and wellness resources, youth and senior programs, emergency preparedness education, and volunteer opportunities.
