GONZALES — Transportation Agency of Monterey County Board of Directors recently honored the City of Gonzales with The Project Team 2018 Transportation Excellence Award for the community bicycling event, Ciclovia Gonzales.
“We had a lot of good days here in Gonzales and even better days when we are able to have events, such as Ciclovia, that bring the community together not just for a fun time, but a positive and healthy one as well,” said Police Chief Keith Wise. “Good job, Gonzales community!”
The Transportation Agency’s 18th annual Excellence Awards honor community members, programs and projects that make a significant contribution to improve transportation in Monterey County. Among those nominated this year were a transit volunteer, a group of Monterey County leaders and safety projects through the county.
Ciclovia was held in Gonzales for the first time last year to promote bicycling and fitness in the city. Several streets were shut down for the event, during which children and parents rode down a square pathway on Fourth Street and along Elko and First streets.
Also receiving awards was Jennifer Cline, a volunteer with Monterey-Salinas Transit, Monterey County “No on Prop. 6” leaders and Ride the 40’s on us.
