Soledad and Gonzales split league games

The Gonzales and Soledad High baseball teams won on the road and lost at home in their Mission Trail Athletic League games last week. Soledad traveled to Gonzales on March 14 and beat the Spartans by an 8-1 tally.

74th King City Track Invitational this Saturday

Twenty-two teams will be at War Memorial Stadium this Saturday for the 74th Annual King City Young Lions and Young Farmers Invitational Track and Field Meet.

Spartans picked for All-Coastal team

Gonzales High School had three players voted first-team in girls soccer for the Coastal Athletic League at a meeting of league coaches. This was the first year that the Spartans participated in the Coastal Athletic League (CAL) after being part of the Mission Trail Athletic League since 1996.

Gonzales soccer hosts dual banquet

The boys and girls from the Gonzales High School soccer programs held a combined sports banquet March 1 at the school’s cafeteria. Players were honored for their work on the soccer pitch and for their efforts in the classroom.

Ochoa finishes 1-2 at state championship

Gonzales junior wrestler Robert Ochoa finished with a 1-2 record while competing at the California Interscholastic Federation State Wrestling Championships at Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield. Ochoa competed in the 197 pound weight class.

Schools begin baseball, softball seasons

The beginning of March means baseball and softball teams at local high schools are finishing up non-league games and getting ready to start the league seasons.

Senior wrestler Robert Ochoa of Gonzales High School finished with a 5-1 record and qualified for the California Interscholastic Federation State Wrestling Championships after placing third at Saturday’s Central Coast Section Championships that were held at Independence High School in San Jose.

Chieftains oust Spartans, 59-30, in playoffs

The Spartans played much better in the final three quarters but could not overcome the deficit in a 59-30 loss in the first round of the Central Coast Section Division IV playoffs.
