On Friday night, the Spartans made their own mark on history with a decisive 33-13 victory over the King City Mustangs in front of a supportive crowd at Dick Force Stadium.

For the first time this season, the Gonzales High varsity volleyball team won back-to-back games, avenging an earlier loss to Pajaro Valley and beating the North Monterey County Condors for the second time in divisional play.

In their only dual meet and home meet of the season, the Gonzales High varsity boys cross country team defeated the Soledad Aztecs by a 24-35 score.

Six players scored at least one touchdown in the Gonzales High football team’s 44-0 Santa Lucia Divisional win over the Marina Mariners on Friday night at Monterey Peninsula College.

With five runners in the top six places the King City varsity boys cross country team easily won their division at Saturday’s Jackie Henderson Memorial Invitational hosted by North Monterey High School in Castroville. King City scored 17 points to easily defeat second place San Benito with 66 points. Soledad High placed fifth in the division.

King City and Gonzales high schools cross country teams stayed busy last weekend with invitational meets at Stanford (Palo Alto) and at Westmoor (Daly City).

Playing in front of a supportive Homecoming crowd, the Gonzales High football team erupted for 19 unanswered points in the second half to defeat the Pajaro Valley Grizzlies, 40-20, on Friday night at Dick Force Stadium.
