GONZALES — Kayla Dixon scored 18 and Jackie Ramirez had a game-high 12 rebounds and added six points as the Gonzales High girls basketball team downed the visiting Santa Catalina Cougars 52-21 last Wednesday night in the Roger Fernando Gym.

Sofia Prieto just missed double figures in scoring, finishing with eight points and grabbing five rebounds.

The week began with a 57-51 setback against defending Mission Trail Athletic League champion Robert Louis Stevenson.

Denise Robles had a double-double for Gonzales with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Prieto added five points for the Spartans.

In the final game of the week Gonzales lost 48-37 to the Greenfield High Lady Bruins. Robles and Prieto score 10 points apiece for Gonzales. The Spartans are 2-8 in the MTAL and 4-1 overall.

Gonzales hosted league rival King City last night and play at Carmel tomorrow on the Monterey Peninsula.
