GONZALES — Gonzales High continued to win games in the Coastal League and remains on top of the standings with a 6-0 record. Gonzales has now won seven straight games.
The Spartans have an overall record of 8-8 and won games last week against Ceiba College Prep, the York School, and Anzar.
On Jan. 23 the Spartans beat Ceiba College Prep 74-42 and were led in double figures in scoring by Xavier Cervantes with 23 points and Pablo Villasenor with 20 points. Gonzales built a 37-19 halftime lead and outscored their opponents 38-23 in the final two quarters.
Two nights later in the Roger Fernando Gym in Gonzales, the Spartans defeated the visiting York School Falcons, 57-47. Jonathan Ganaden led Gonzales in scoring with 12 points and Isaiah Banuelos had a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds.
The Spartans completed the week by overwhelming the Anzar Hawks at home, 64-32. Banuelos scored 19 points for the host team and Villasenor finished with 18 points.
Gonzales has just one game this week, hosting the Pacific Collegiate Pumas of Santa Cruz tomorrow night.
The Spartans will not play again until at February game on the Monterey Peninsula against the host Marina Mariners.
