GONZALES — Gonzales High School track and field team opened the season at the Freshman Focus Invitational on March 12, hosted at Everett Alvarez High School in Salinas.

Spartan frosh athletes tested themselves against their peers on the Eagles track with many coming home with medals.

Gonzales’ medal winners were: Jayson Tejeda (third place, 200 meters); Jayleen Villasenor (third place, discus); Heidi Camacho (second place, discus; and first place, shot put); Matthew Arreola (third place, 400 meters); Giovanni Ochoa (second place, 800 meters and 1600 meters); Nate Alvarez (third place, shot put and discus); Dom Montiel (first place, shot put; and second place, discus); and Tony Garcia (second place, 200 meters and shot put).

The Spartans team also competed March 19 at the Garlic Classic in Greenfield.
