SALINAS VALLEY — Soledad High’s softball team is in sixth place in the Mission Division with a 4-6 record (7-7 overall).

The Aztecs lost two contests last week: 4-2 against Rancho San Juan in Salinas and a 12-0 shutout against host Pacific Grove.

Against Rancho San Juan, Soledad led 1-0 in the top of the first before the host team tied the game in the bottom of the first. The Aztecs scored their second run in the top of the second and held the lead until the bottom of the fourth inning when the Trailblazers scored the tying run. Rancho San Juan secured the victory with two runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Aubrey Esparza, Delylah Ocampo and Sophia Gonzalez combined for three Soledad hits. Ocampo allowed four runs and struck out four to take the loss, and Kassandra Hernandez pitched the last two innings of the game and struck out three batters.

Soledad is on the road this week with a game Thursday at Stevenson in Pebble Beach and on Friday in Watsonville against Monte Vista Christian.

King City is currently in fourth place in the Mission Division with a 7-3 record (12-8 overall).

The Mustangs won two out of three league games last week. They crushed visiting Monte Vista Christian, 20-5, on Tuesday, kept the offense going Thursday with a 26-11 win at North Monterey County and then lost to the Carmel Padres, 3-2, on the road Saturday.

Alizah Carrillo allowed five runs and struck out seven batters to get the win for King City against Monte Vista. Crystal Paramo led the Mustangs with three hits and had four RBIs, and Carrillo helped her own cause with a triple and three RBIs. Amity Hearne had one hit with three RBIs; Raylie Moore hit a homerun with three RBIs; and Avery Munoz had three RBIs with one hit.

In the North Monterey County game, Carrillo won her second game of the week on the mound with nine strikeouts against the Condors.

Janesa Lopez, Jocelyn Romero and Carrillo had three hits apiece, and Katia Slama led the team with four hits, including a double, and had three RBIs. Hearne hit two doubles, and Moore added a double.

In Saturday’s game at Carmel, the Mustangs took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and scored another run in the top of the third to lead 2-0. The Padres then scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to earn the win.

Carrillo took the loss and allowed three runs and struck out two batters and gave up five hits. Carrillo led King City with two hits, and Hearne and Munoz added base hits.

The Mustangs played Tuesday at home against Stevenson and will travel to Watsonville to battle Monte Vista on Thursday.

Greenfield lost a pair of non-league games last week to fall to 8-12 overall.

The Bruins dropped an 8-6 contest on April 21 on the road to Robert Louis Stevenson, and then lost at home on Friday to the Pirates, 17-14.

In the first game, the Bruins managed just two hits against Pirates pitcher Sabrian Hardin. Isabella Figueroa had the only extra base hit for Greenfield with a triple. Chloe Zavala took the loss and finished with 11 strikeouts.

The Bruins (6-0 in the Cypress Division) resume Cypress Division play on Wednesday when they host Pajaro Valley, and will play on the road to Marina on Friday.

Gonzales remains in second place behind the Bruins and did not play last week due to work on their infield.

The Spartans are 5-8 overall and 5-1 in the division and will host St. Francis on Wednesday and Seaside on Friday.
