SALINAS VALLEY — Gonzales High varsity boys’ soccer team opened the pre-season last week with a 4-1 victory over host Pacific Grove, and ended the week on Saturday with a 2-2 tie in Santa Maria against Righetti High School.

On Nov. 25 at Pacific Grove, Jorge Uribe scored two goals in the Spartans’ win over the Breakers. Edgar Santiago and Luis Benavides scored solo goals, and Jose Camacho and Ulisses Mancillas were credited with assists.

Last Saturday in Santa Maria, Mancillas and Roberto Rosas scored goals for Gonzales and Camacho assisted on a goal.

Gonzales (1-0-1) played Tuesday in Salinas against Everett Alvarez and will play at Greenfield on Friday night.

In other boys’ soccer games involving South Monterey County teams: Greenfield travels to King City for a game Wednesday; and Soledad hosted the Monterey High Toreadores on Tuesday night and will play at Alisal on Dec. 9.

This week’s soccer games for local girls’ teams include: Gonzales at the Fremont Firebird Classic; King City hosted Templeton on Tuesday and plays at North Salinas on Thursday; and Soledad played at Mission College Prep in San Luis Obispo on Tuesday and hosts the Pajaro Valley Grizzles on Wednesday.
