GONZALES — At last week’s Gonzales Rotary International meeting, the local Rotarians had the pleasure of meeting the Gonzales High School Students of the Month. Principal Cheryl Alves de Souza introduced them to the Rotary members.
Each of the students was recommended by one of their teachers. For Alondra Blanco, a ninth-grade student, it was her teacher Robert Beutler.
“Alondra has shown strong class leadership and a willingness to assist others,” Beutler said. “Her quiet confidence spills over to the entire class.”
Representing the 10th grade this month is Melissa Villegas, who was nominated by teacher Margie Daniels.
“Melissa is a great student to have. She is always so polite and upbeat everyday,” Daniels said. “Her enthusiasm and tenacity is second to none. Melissa always puts forth her best effort, always willing to learn, and helpful to anyone who needs it.”
Max Feldman nominated 11th-grader Alondra Fierros.
“Alondra Fierros is a pleasure to have in my Math Engineering Science Achievement (MESA) class. Students had multiple project options to select for competing in our annual competition. She and her partner chose the most difficult of the options available, the Model Heart,” Feldman said. “She worked hard through the engineering design process and created an elaborate project that exceeded my expectations. Her effort and academic ability awarded her second place in our preliminary competition against schools throughout the tri-county area. She will continue on to the regional competition held in April at UCSC.”
Michelle Rodriguez nominated 12th-grade student Jonathan Blas.
“Jonathan is always helpful,” Rodriguez said. “He is very polite, encourages other students, and does all his work. He has a good grade in my class and is a really nice person.”
The students were treated to lunch with the Gonzales Rotary Club and congratulated on a job well done.
