Hartnell Road bridge project begins south of Salinas

SALINAS — Construction work on the Hartnell Road Bridge Replacement Project began on July 5.

The bridge replacement will require the closure of Hartnell Road about 400 feet west of Alisal Road, just south of the City of Salinas, for the duration of the work.

The project is expected to take eight months and be completed in February 2023. A new bridge will be built, and the existing bridge will be removed.

The new bridge and roadway approaches will provide two 12-foot lanes and 8-foot shoulders. Most of the roadwork is expected to be done during the day between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

A detour plan will be in place to advise motorists of road closures and suggest alternate routes.

“Monterey County Public Works will make every effort to keep the community updated on the progress of the work and any additional changes to the traffic patterns,” the county said in a news release.

The project, with an estimated construction cost of $2,250,698, is funded by the Federal Highway Administration, Highway Bridge Program, State Toll Credits and Measure X funds.

Anderson Pacific Engineering Construction Inc., of Santa Clara, was awarded the project’s construction contract.
