GONZALES — Gonzales Police Department has promoted two corporals to sergeants and two officers to corporals.

“I’m happy to announce that we had a few promotions recently in the Police Department,” said Keith Wise, police chief.

Making the change to sergeant is Santiago Melgoza, who has served the department for 12 years. He was promoted to corporal three years ago.

Joining Melgoza as a sergeant is Juan Mendoza, who served as an officer with the Gonzales Police for 10 years and was also promoted to corporal three years ago.

One of the officers making the transition to corporal is Brian Solis, who was promoted July 31. Solis has served the City of Gonzales for four years and served in the police reserves before becoming a full-time officer.

Officer Isaiah Rodriguez also made the promotion to corporal July 31. Rodriguez has been with the Gonzales Police for two years and has a similar story to Solis, both serving as reserves before moving to full-time officers.

The final addition the Gonzales Police Department has made is hiring Ulyses Fierros as the community service officer and animal control officer.

The two sergeants, two corporals and Community Service/Animal Control Officer were introduced to the City Council at its Aug. 21 meeting.
