MONTEREY COUNTY — Monterey County Health Department’s latest report Sunday revealed an upsurge of 65 new cases of Covid-19 since yesterday, 30 of which are in the King City area.

“This update is difficult to share,” said District 3 County Supervisor Chris Lopez in a Facebook post Sunday. “We are not through this yet. Please continue to mind your physical distancing and wash your hands and look out for one another.”

A total of 732 residents have now tested positive for the coronavirus in Monterey County. Sunday’s report also showed that 424 of those residents have recovered from the respiratory disease so far, an increase of 14 recoveries from Saturday.

Countywide deaths related to Covid-19 remain at 10.

The majority of those infected with Covid-19 are from the Salinas area (423), with the others from the Peninsula and Big Sur area (54), South County (201) and North County (54), according to the most recent data.

Within South County, the numbers have been broken down by zip code. Greenfield (93927) has the most cases with 61, followed by King City (93930) with 59, Soledad (93960) with 45 and Gonzales (93926) with 28. Eight cases are classified as “other” in South County.

Most of the county’s cases (378) had no known pre-existing medical conditions, and 74 residents have been hospitalized due to the virus.
