GONZALES — The Monterey County Health Department is seeking Gonzales community members for its Leadership and Civic Engagement Academy.

“The need for a civic education and engagement program is supported by numerous research studies that have shown that civic engagement is fundamental in building healthy communities,” said Angelica Chavez of Monterey County Health Department. “The enLACE Academy will provide community residents with an opportunity to learn more about that connection and gain skills to make positive changes in their community.”

The main goals of the Leadership and Civic Engagement (enLACE) Academy is to provide participants with the space to learn about local governments particularly the decision-making processes and the impact to public health. Through the Academy, participants will meet and build positive relationships with community leaders and feel connected to their community by instilling participants with positive attitudes toward the value of lifelong civic engagement.

The Monterey County Health Department is requesting Gonzales residents to nominate fellow community members who may be interested in participating in the enLACE Academy that culminates with a graduation ceremony.

Participants of enLACE are required to attend all classes at the Gonzales High School library from 6 to 8 p.m. Nominations are due on or before July 27. Call Chavez at 831-755-4514 for any questions.
