KC routs Gonzales

KING CITY — Lady Mustang pitcher Mikayla Davis was one out away from a no-hitter and produced five runs in King City’s 20-1 win over the Gonzales softball team last Thursday in King City. Davis finished the game with five strikeouts in her pitching win over the Spartans.

Davis finished the game with five hits to lead King City in hitting. Julie Arreola and Lauren Johnson each had a pair of triples. Johnson had a team best of five runs batted in. Brazil Perez and Mackenzie Hearne went 2 x 3.

The King City Lady Broncos beat Gonzales 20-8. Aja Rosas was on the mound and finished with seven strikeouts.

“Our offense dominated as Aja helped her own cause by going 3 x 3,” said Lady Bronco head coach Becki Weatherwax. “Mari Cenobio went 2 x 3 with a triple and a double. Jasmine Guillen, Paola Garcia, and Marlene Diaz went 3 x 5, Ivy Hearne and Allison Wagner went 2 x 4, and Kathy Acero and Johanna Medina went 1 x 1.”

The Lady Mustangs began the week with a 7-5 setback against the visiting Pacific Grove Breakers in King City.

“We kept it close behind the pitching of Mikayla Davis,” said King City Lady Mustang head coach Amie Kling. “Centerfielder Lauren Johnson stop the run production of Pacific Grove in the third inning by fielding a ball hit up the middle and making a throw at home to get out of the inning.”

Johnson had two hits and stole home for a run in the first inning. Alexus Andrade went 2 x 4 with a run and an RBI while Caroline Martinez and Megan Flores went 2 x 3. Flores had a three-run homerun in the third inning. Davis, Julie Arreola, and Madison Owens had basehits.

The Lady Broncos suffered a 13-0 home loss to the Breakers. Kathy Acero had five strikeouts as a pitcher for King City.

“Our offense was never really able to get started,” said Coach Weatherwax. “Pacific Grove had some dominated pitching.”

The King City teams continued league play yesterday in Pebble Beach against the Robert Louis Stevenson Pirates.
