GREENFIELD — A Soledad man was arrested on multiple charges after leading officers on a pursuit through Greenfield following a domestic disturbance call, according to the Greenfield Police Department.

On April 15 at about 10 p.m., officers responded to the 400 block of Tehema Way for a reported verbal domestic disturbance. The reporting party said her ex-boyfriend, identified as 25-year-old Hector Acero of Soledad, was outside the residence causing a disturbance.

Officers located Acero inside a vehicle in the area. As they approached, he drove away without headlights and was stopped a short distance later. Officers determined the incident was verbal only. Acero appeared emotional and was consoled by officers. At the request of the reporting party, he was advised not to return to the residence, according to police.

After being released, Acero allegedly fled the area at a high rate of speed, running a stop sign in front of officers. When officers attempted a second traffic stop for vehicle code violations, he failed to yield and led officers on a pursuit through Greenfield and onto Highway 101.

The pursuit lasted several minutes and reached speeds of about 60 mph within city limits, police said.

During the incident, the California Highway Patrol was conducting an unrelated pursuit nearby. A CHP aircraft, Air71, assisted Greenfield officers by monitoring the pursuit from the air.

The pursuit ended back on the 400 block of Tehema Way, where Acero again failed to comply with commands and attempted to flee in reverse toward officers before becoming stuck, according to police.

Officers deployed a beanbag round in an effort to gain compliance. Acero exited the vehicle but continued to resist arrest, leading officers to deploy a Taser. Two officers suffered minor injuries and were treated.

Acero was taken into custody, evaluated by medical personnel at the scene and later at a local hospital. He suffered minor injuries consistent with the beanbag round and Taser deployment.

He was booked into the Monterey County Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon (vehicle), evading a peace officer, reckless driving, resisting arrest and additional vehicle code violations.

“This incident highlights the risks associated with domestic violence situations, which may involve emotional, physical or other forms of harm. If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, help is available,” stated Greenfield Police Department.

Confidential support is available through YWCA Monterey County at 831-422-8602 or in**@****mc.org. In emergencies, officials said to call 911.
