GONZALES — Gonzales High School senior athletes Andrew Zarate and Celeste Camarena have been named the Gonzales Spartans’ Male and Female Athletes of the Year, respectively.

Zarate is a two-sport athlete — football and wrestling — who excelled as a grappler this year, placing fifth in the CCS Masters. He was also awarded the Steven Dalipe Foundation Scholarship.

Camarena will go down as one of the best athletes in the school’s history. She was part of two title-winning teams in volleyball, helped the Lady Spartans return to the playoffs in basketball and is one of the best softball players in the county.
