MONTEREY COUNTY — Candidates have until 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12, to file for several local offices that remain open after the regular filing period for the Nov. 3 General Election closed Friday.
The extended filing period applies to offices where an eligible incumbent did not file for reelection. Monterey County Elections Department announced the additional filing period on Aug. 7.
Several openings are in South Monterey County, including city, school district and special district seats.
In Gonzales, the extended period is open for mayor and two Gonzales Unified School District governing board seats representing Trustee Areas 2 and 4.
King City has an opening for a City Council member representing District 1, as well as three seats on the King City Union School District governing board.
Soledad’s mayoral seat also remains open for the extended filing period.
South Monterey County Joint Union High School District has three governing board seats open for filing. The district serves students in the King City and Greenfield areas.
Other local school district openings include three seats on the Bradley Union School District board, one Trustee Area 1 seat on the Chualar Union School District board, a two-year seat on the Mission Union School District board, three seats on the San Ardo Union Elementary School District board and three four-year seats on the San Lucas Union Elementary School District board.
Greenfield also has two openings on the Greenfield Fire Protection District board.
Salinas Valley Health has an open Director Zone 1 seat, while the Monterey County Board of Education has openings in Trustee Areas 1 and 7. Hartnell Community College District also has three seats subject to the extended filing period, representing Trustee Areas 5, 6 and 7.
Candidates filing during the extended period must meet all filing requirements. For city offices, candidates should contact the respective city clerk.
