GONZALES — City of Gonzales has brought on two new employees, Matthew Sundt and Patrick Dobbins, to fill vacant positions with the city.
Sundt is taking on the role of community development director after 32 years of experience in community development and planning. He has provided consulting services for a variety of public agencies in the Central Coast region, including for cities, counties, water and park districts and LAFCO (Local Agency Formation Commission).
Sundt is an experienced grant writer and permit processor for land uses, general plan updates and zoning ordinances.
While Sundt served as a planning consultant, he managed building inspection departments and public agency staff. He is a native of Monterey County, having lived here for 44 years.
“I am honored to work with city staff, the decision makers and the community to fulfill the community’s commitment to create a healthy, equitable and economically thriving community,” Sundt said.
Dobbins will be taking over the role of Public Works director from Harold Wolgamott and comes with 30 years of Public Works experience with various agencies throughout California. Among his responsibilities were planning, design and administration for a variety of infrastructure and land development projects for more than 75 public agencies.
Over the past four years, Dobbins has been contracting as the city engineer with the City of Gonzales and was part of the Alta Street Repavement Project. He is a registered civil engineer and will be taking over a department of 10 employees.
Dobbins has served on the Monterey Bay Chapter Board of the American Public Works Association for the past 20 years and was on the board of the Monterey Bay Waterworks Association from 2008 to 2018.
Dobbins is married to his wife Lisa of 20 years, and they have two children, a son and daughter. His role with the City of Gonzales begins Jan. 30.
