GREENFIELD — Juntos con Esperanza and Greenfield Union School District Parent Academy have joined together to host two special workshops to support local families in caring for their loved ones and practicing needed self-care.

The free community event called, “Support for People Who Care for a Loved One,” is set for Saturday, Aug. 20, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Greenfield Union School District Family Resource Center, 493 El Camino Real, Suite A, in Greenfield.

To register, go to hospicegiving.org/workshops.

Vanessa Aguilera, MPH with the Del Mar Caregiver Resource Center, will present the first workshop, “Caregiver Wellness,” including an overview of caregiver wellness and practical strategies to reduce stress and improve quality of life.

The second workshop, “Healthy Brain and Body: Tips from the Latest Research,” features Laura Bernal, community educator with the Alzheimer’s Association. She will present the latest research related to healthy aging, including in the areas of diet and nutrition, exercise, cognitive activity and social engagement, and share practical tools to help residents plan for healthy aging.

All presentations will be in Spanish, with bilingual services available if needed. Childcare, a light breakfast and snacks will also be provided.

In addition to the workshops, event attendees can visit the resource fair to learn more about the services offered by organizations, such as Alzheimer’s Association, Coastal Kids Home Care, Dioceses of Monterey, Del Mar Caregiver Resource Centers, Heal Together, Hospice of the Central Coast-Montage Health, Legal Services for Seniors, Valley Health Plan and more.

Many of the participating organizations are members of Juntos con Esperanza.

Facilitated by Hospice Giving Foundation, Juntos con Esperanza is a partnership to promote access to quality care and services through end-of-life for people in Latinx communities in South Monterey County.

The focus is to better understand desired and needed services, the influence of community members’ culture, faith and family relationships, and how to make culturally relevant care, education and services available.

“Family caregivers give the world for their loved ones. It is important to know the local resources that can support you in providing the best possible care for your loved ones and to learn how to take good care of yourself,” according to Hospice Giving Foundation in a news release.
