All-Star tourneys begin this weekend

SOUTH COUNTY — Little League baseball teams of all ages will begin play this weekend in the California District 9 All-Star Tournaments. Teams from King City, Greenfield, Soledad and Gonzales are participating in the tournament that will conclude with championship games on July 8.

The 7-9 tournament will feature 10 teams in two pools. Soledad and King City will play in Pool A and Greenfield will play in Pool B. Gonzales Little League will not field a 7-9 team. Soledad will be the visiting team on Saturday in a 10 am game in King City against Ferrasci. King City will be the home team against Hollister National on Saturday in a game that will be played at 10 am in Soledad. Greenfield opens the tournament as the host team against Atlantic of Salinas at 1 pm at King City.

Games for South County teams in the 7-9 tournament are: 6/25 King City vs. Hartnell 1 pm at Soledad, Greenfield vs. Manzanita 10 am at Gonzales; 6/27 Hollister-National vs. Soledad 5:30 pm at Gonzales, 6/29 Soledad vs. Hartnell 5:30 pm at King City, Ferrasci vs. King City 7:30 pm at Soledad; Hollister-American vs. Greenfield 5:30 pm at Gonzales; 7/1 King City vs. Soledad 10 am at Gonzales, Greenfield vs. National 10 am at King City. First and second place teams from each pool play each other on 7/5 and the final is on 7/8.

In the 8-10 tournament all four South County teams will be part of Pool A. In the first round of games on Saturday King City will play Hollister-National  at 9 am at Ferrasci Little League; Greenfield plays Gonzales at noon at Continental Little League; Soledad starts play with Manzanita at noon at Hollister Field 2.

The rest of the games for the 8-10 tournament are: 6/25 Greenfield vs. Soledad 9 am at Ferrasci, Gonzales vs. King City 9 am at Continental;  6/27 Gonzales vs. Soledad 5:30 pm at Ferrasci, Hollister-National vs. Greenfield 5:30 pm at Continental, King City vs. Manzanita 5:30 pm at Hollister; 6/29 Soledad vs. King City 5:30 pm at Ferrasci, Manzanita vs. Greenfield 5:30 pm at Hollister, Gonzales vs. Hollister-National 5:30 pm at Continental; 7/1 Manzanita vs. Gonzales 9 am at Hollister, King City vs. Greenfield noon at Continental; Soledad vs. Hollister-National 9 am at Ferrasci. Pool play first and second place teams will play on 7/5 and the championship finals are on 7/8.

The Major Little League tournament for 11-12 year-olds will have King City and Gonzales opening play on Saturday at 9 am in Greenfield in Pool A. Soledad is also in Pool A and opens the tournament as the host team against Continental at 9 am at National Little League. Greenfield will represent South County in Pool B and begins the tournament on Saturday against Hollister-National at noon at Hartnell Little League.

The rest of the Major Little League schedule is as follows: 6/25 Ferrasci vs. Gonzales 9 am at National in Salinas, King City vs. Soledad 9 am at Greenfield; 6/28 King City vs. Manzanita 5:30 at Hartnell, Gonzales vs. Soledad 5:30 at Greenfield; 6/29 Hollister-American vs. Greenfield 5:30 at National, Continental vs. Gonzales 5:30 at Hartnell, Soledad vs. Manzanita 5:30 at Greenfield; Ferrasci vs. King City 7:30 at Greenfield; 7/1 Soledad vs. Ferrasci 9 am at Hartnell, Gonzales vs. Manzanita noon at Hartnell, Continental vs. King City 3:00 at Hartnell, Hartnell vs. Greenifield noon at National. Pool play first and second place teams play on 7/5 and the championship game is on Saturday 7/8 at Ferrasci Little League.
