GONZALES — Parts of Alta Street have reopened, such as North Alta Street, with some traffic still using detours.
Although North Alta Street is not finished, the roadway is open now and will be getting a top layer of pavement at the end of the project.
“The road will not be closed for that operation,” said Harold Wolgamott, public works director. “Bypasses will keep traffic flowing with minor delays.”
South Alta is still closed at different locations. The work area has shifted to the area between Constellation and the cemetery. North Alta Street is available for use by Dole and Constellation traffic. Gloria Road is only available for cemetery access and the far end of Alta Street.
“For the next two weeks, the south part of the project will continue, from the cemetery to the south end of Constellation Brands Winery,” said Wolgamott. “On or about Feb. 8, the south work area will be moved to the area from Gonzales River Road to Dole. For those weeks, construction will work on the area.”
A, B and C streets will be open, but no traffic on this section of Alta during those two weeks.
Wolgamott said around the first of March the last sections will be done, which includes the intersections of Gonzales River Road with Alta and 10th streets.
“This is going to be the most challenging,” said Wolgamott. “It may take three days to complete.”
