Deolinda George, 90, of Gonzales, passed away on Wednesday, July 12, 2017. She was born in Sao Miguel, Azores in Portugal on February 17, 1927.
She was the second oldest of 7 siblings. At 19, she married her first husband, Avelino Silva, in 1946 and had two children, Joe and Evelina. After his passing, she went to visit her sister in Hayward, CA. While visiting, she met and married her second husband, Manuel Dutra George and brought her two children over from Portugal. Together they had two more children, Paul and Yvonne George. After his passing in 2000, she moved in with her oldest daughter, Evelina, in Gonzales, CA. For the past 3 years she had been living at Eden Valley Care Center in Soledad. Throughout her life she loved gardening and being a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her first and second husband; two sisters, Maria Amaral and Almerinda Canario.
She is survived by her children, Evelina Silva, Joe Silva, Paul George, and Yvonne Fennick; siblings, David de Medeiros, Rosa Almeida, Alexandra Silva, and Beatrice Izidoro; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 1:00pm to 5:30pm on Thursday, July 20, 2017 and 1:00pm to 5:00pm on Friday, July 21, 2017 at Alta Vista Mortuary, 41 East Alisal Street, Salinas, CA 93901.
Visitation will also be held from 6:00pm to 7:00pm on Friday, July 21, 2017 at St. Theodore’s Church, 116 South Beldon Street, Gonzales, CA 93926.
Rosary will be held at 7:00pm on Friday, July 21, 2017 at St. Theodore’s Church.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at St. Theodore’s Church.
Burial will follow at Gonzales District Cemetery, 1000 Highway 101 South, Gonzales, CA 93926.
