
GONZALES — Gonzales High School baseball team held an awards banquet on July 23 at the Gonzales American Legion Post 81.
The awards night began with the players being presented by varsity head coach Justin Maturino and the junior varsity staff.
Maturino and assistant coaches Raul Delgado and Isaiah Suniga presented a Pacific Coast Athletic League certificate and patch to first-team All-League Player Noah Villalobos.
Varsity team awards were then given to Villalobos (Most Valuable Player); Luis Cabada (Golden Glove Award); Daniel Jimenez (Coaches Award); Moises Castro (Coaches Award); and Gabriel Prieto (Most Improved). Prieto also received the Richard Chamberlin Sportsmanship award.
The junior varsity coaching staff of Fernando Madrigal and assistant coaches Felix Maturino, Andre Maturino and Josue Madrigal chose the following players for special team awards: Nazon Jimenez (Most Improved); Alejandro Preciado (Coaches Award); and Jeffery Schweitzer (Most Valuable Player).
Gonzales High Athletic Director Margie Daniels also gave out Certificates of Achievement for players with high GPAs, as well as presented certificates from the Central Coast Section for players with exceptional GPAs.
