GONZALES — Gonzales Unified School District has appointed Keith Thorbahn as its next superintendent, effective July 21.

Thorbahn previously served as principal of Gonzales High School, where the district said he developed a focus on academic achievement, student engagement and collaboration among staff, students and families.

Throughout his 33 years in education, Thorbahn has demonstrated a commitment to supporting students, empowering educators and fostering positive learning environments, according to the district.

The Governing Board selected Thorbahn following a comprehensive selection process, citing his leadership experience, commitment to student success and connection to the Gonzales community.

“The Governing Board is confident that Mr. Thorbahn’s experience, collaborative leadership style, and vision for public education will provide continuity and build upon the Board’s goals and actions, while advancing opportunities for every student,” the district said in a news release.

As superintendent, Thorbahn will oversee district operations and work with students, employees, families and community partners to advance the district’s mission of providing a high-quality education in a safe, supportive and inclusive learning environment.

Thorbahn said he is honored to take on the role and looks forward to working with the district community.

“I am honored to have been selected to serve as superintendent and look forward to partnering with the Governing Board, district staff, families and the Gonzales community to continue strengthening educational programs, supporting student achievement and preparing every student for success in college, career and life,” Thorbahn stated.

Gonzales Unified added that it will continue focusing on academic excellence, supporting students’ overall well-being and building partnerships to help students succeed.
