GONZALES — A total of 166 vehicles drove to the Gonzales Reuse, Recycle and Cleanup Day event June 27 at Fairview Middle School.
Gonzales High School track and field athletes and California State University Monterey Bay service learning volunteers from Save the Whales earned 80 hours of community service.
The event included free trash disposal, recycling of metal, plastic, appliances, mattresses, e-waste, household hazardous waste, oil filter exchange, compost giveaway, reuse area, clothing and household goods recycling.
City of Gonzales, Gonzales Unified School District, Tri-Cities Disposal and Recycling, Salinas Valley Recycles and Monterey County Environmental Health sponsored the event.
“We are grateful to all of our partners and volunteers who make these events possible,” said Maury Trevleven, special projects manager for Tri-Cities Disposal and Recycling. “Events like these help residents maintain sanitary living conditions, recycle large items, deal with major life changes, and share still usable items to people who want them. Most importantly, these events relieve the pressure that can lead to illegal dumping.”
The next City of Gonzales Community-wide Garage Sales are on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 10-11, followed by the Reuse, Recycle and Cleanup Day on Saturday, Oct. 17.
