SALINAS VALLEY — King City, Greenfield and Gonzales high schools competed on Saturday at the Monterey Bay Invitational, hosted by North Salinas High School at Toro Park in Salinas.

While the competition was tough in every division, the King City junior varsity boys’ team was able to win their division.

Rodrigo Santiago led the Broncos with a third-place finish in a time of 17:59 on the three-mile course. Teammates Alfonso Garcia placed fourth in 18:14, followed by Edzon Juarez in fifth in 18:20; Isaiah Garcia took ninth in 18:33; and Jairo Saldana finished 10th in 18:35.

Hollister won the varsity boys division, edging Salinas 76-77. King City placed fifth in the division, while Greenfield took ninth and Gonzales finished 13th.

Sequoia won the varsity girls division, in which King City placed seventh as a team. Greenfield’s Izoida Ramirez was an individual award winner, placing ninth in a time of 20:49.

The Greenfield girls placed fourth in the junior varsity division that was also won by Sequoia. Bruins runner Karel Cornejo led the team, placing 12th in a time of 24:08.

Next, Greenfield and King City competed at the PCAL’s Center Meet #2 at Toro Park on Wednesday, while Gonzales and Soledad will compete there on Thursday.
