MONTEREY COUNTY — Monterey County Workforce Development Board (MCWDB) has received a second round of funding — almost $2 million — from the California Volunteers, Office of the Governor, for the Youth Service Corps employment program.
“The Youth Service Corps funding will help MCWDB address local challenges surrounding climate change and food insecurity while providing our local young adults with the opportunity to make an impact in Monterey County through the Green Cadre program,” said MCWDB Executive Director Christopher Donnelly.
The Green Cadre program will provide up to 90 young adults, between the ages of 18 and 30, with paid job training, work experience and community service projects in Monterey County over an 18-month period.
The program works closely with the California State Parks, the City of Monterey and the Food Bank for Monterey County. Projects include: park and trail maintenance; wildfire mitigation and protection; and food banks/community gardens.
The MCWDB Green Cadre program will start Aug. 11. In the first three weeks of the program, participants will focus on team building, communication skills and obtaining certifications, such as OSHA 10, Safety and Food Handlers. Job training will start in week four with a focus on addressing key areas of climate and food insecurity.
The program is designed for out-of-school young adults ages 18-30 who will earn $19 hourly. Young adults interested in being considered for the program must apply at montereycountyworks.com/Cal4AllGreenCadre.
The online application deadline is July 25. Questions may be emailed to MC**************@**************ey.gov.
