SALINAS VALLEY — High school baseball teams from South Monterey County are entering their final stretch of games in the regular season, with only two more weeks of play.

Greenfield High improved to 4-4 in the Mission Division as they swept the Everett Alvarez Eagles at home and on the road.

In last Wednesday’s game at Greenfield, Fabian Gonzales allowed just three hits and struck out seven to earn the pitching win.

Gonzales had three hits and four runs batted in for the Bruins and Nathaniel Trujillo had two hits and an RBI. Frankie Hernandez and Kenny Pajas added base hits in the 10-0 victory.

Trujillo was the winning pitcher in the road game with the Eagles. Gonzales and Pajas had two hits apiece for the Bruins.

Greenfield played a non-divisional game against King City on Monday (winning 7-3), will travel to Salinas for a game with Alisal on Wednesday and complete the week on Friday at home with Alisal. Greenfield is in a three-way tie for fourth in the Mission Division with the Trojans and North Monterey County.

Soledad (7-13 overall, 3-10 in Mission) lost two out three games last week.

The Aztecs lost to the Hollister Haybalers, 6-2, and then won 19-1 in a non-divisional game with Marina before being shut out 4-0 at home against the Haybalers.

Vidal Perez pitched five innings in the road game to Hollister, allowing six runs and finishing with eight strikeouts. Anakin Tavarez and Daniel Garcia had a pair of hits for the Aztecs in the loss.

In the second game with Hollister, the Haybalers held a 1-0 lead and then scored three insurance runs in the top of the sixth. Trent Roach was the winning pitcher and Daniel Valenzuela Jr. was the losing pitcher.

The Aztecs played against Salinas High in Salinas on Tuesday and will travel to Watsonville for a game with St. Francis on Thursday.

King City returned to action after a week off with a game at Greenfield on Monday, hosted North Salinas on Tuesday (losing 7-0) and will travel to Salinas on Thursday to complete the home-and-away series with the Vikings. The Mustangs are 6-1 in the Cypress Division and 6-13 overall.

Gonzales (3-7 overall, 3-4 in Cypress) played at Seaside Tuesday night and will host the Spartans on Thursday.
