GONZALES — Six individuals, one team and a coach were chosen to enter the 2026 Gonzales High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
An induction ceremony and dinner will take place on Saturday, Aug. 15, at Fairview Laguna Seca. The event will be hosted by the Gonzales Spartan 300 Club.
Chosen as individuals for this year’s class were Gonzales athletes Stan Hiserman, Ignacio Guzman, Juan Guzman, Theotis Daniels, Jesus Santos and Rosa Ramirez. The 2007 boys soccer championship team was chosen as inductees for winning the school’s first Central Coast Section championship; and Mark Ironside was chosen as a head football coach.
Hiserman was a Stanford University record holder as a member of a relay team and ran track at Gonzales High. Ignacio Guzman will enter the Hall of Fame as a football player, was a school record holder in rushing and is a contributor to the Gonzales sports programs.
Juan Guzman was a three-sports athlete in football, basketball and as a jumper on the Spartan track teams. Guzman could shoot the lights out on the basketball courts and jumped 6-4 in the high jump and won the league championship in the event.
Daniels led the Spartans to the 1999 Mission Trail Athletic League title at quarterback and was a multiple All-League athlete on the track teams. He was the MTAL and Central Coast Section champion in the pole vault in 2000 and qualified for the CIF State Meet at Cerritos Junior College in Southern California.
Santos was an All-MTAL player in football, played on the basketball teams and was an MTAL champion and former school record holder in the pole vault. After competing at Stanislaus University, Santos became one the best high school pole vaulting coaches in Northern California.
Ramirez was an All-League athlete in volleyball and basketball and played on the Spartan softball teams. She was a prolific scorer on the basketball court and led the Spartan girls in scoring as a varsity player.
Ironside won more than 53 games in his 10 years as head coach of the Gonzales football team. In 1999, the Spartans won the Mission Trail Athletic League championship under the guidance of Ironside and his coaching staff. The game will long be remembered for the comeback win at home against the King City Mustangs in the Little Big Game at Dick Force Stadium.
