GONZALES — The Gonzales Youth Council is now accepting applications for the 2017-2018 school year. Applications are due by Monday, June 5, to the school office or City Hall.

“This awesome program is growing and thriving with each passing year,” said Gonzales Grows Green Consulting Project Manager Maury Treleven. “This program is a pathway to many important opportunities, personal development, leadership training and community and civic engagement.”

Applicants are students in grades seventh through 12th who will serve on the Youth Council to advise, recommend and share information to ensure that youth have a voice and influence in city government, school, community and programs and services that affect children and youth.

Applicants will be required to plan and implement service-learning projects and other community-improving activities of high interest to children and youth. Finally, the Youth Council applicant will gain valuable leadership skills and experiences to aid their success.

The application process includes interviews on Friday, June 16, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., and Monday, June 19, from 1 to 4 p.m. The selection will be announced June 23.

Gonzales Youth Council meets the first and third Mondays from 3:45 to 5:45 p.m.
