GONZALES — The Gonzales Youth Council completed several service projects for its Kindness Rules and Joymaker Challenge over 2017.

The Challenge was finished by four different activities the Youth Council participated in, starting with the Kindness Rules Head, Hearts and Hands. The youth planned 24 hours where students from kindergarten through sixth grade were part of the city’s Thanksgiving Break Recreation Program.

During the holiday season, the group planned and hosted a fun community-building event at Central Park that brought over 100 children and families together for holiday crafts. The families and children also enjoyed some hot chocolate and cookies.

That same weekend the Gonzales Youth Council showed their support for the City of Gonzales and the Gonzales Unified School District with the holiday lights event. The holiday lights is a carnival-style event that included games.

Rounding up its year, the Youth Council held a gift-wrapping party in which teens gift wrapped approximately 100 presents provided by Hasbro. The gifts were distributed to children in families most likely to experience hardships.

The Joymaker Challenge ran from Nov. 21 to Dec. 23 and had participants from California to Miami, Fla.
