SALINAS VALLEY — South Monterey County wrestlers have qualified for Saturday’s Central Coast Section (CCS) Masters wrestling championships after placing in the top 10 during the CCS Southern Regionals last weekend at Watsonville High.

Six girls from King City made the cut, including Shyrah McDonald and Sophia Patino, who both placed fourth in the 115-pound and 235-pound weight classes, respectively. Other Mustang placers were: Yahaira Torres (eighth, 100); Mia Lopez (ninth, 105); Makayla Montoya (eighth, 120); and Haily Adair (eighth, 170).

Also placing to CCS from Greenfield were: Violeta Camacho (eighth, 125); Marlene Hernandez (eighth, 140); and Audrey Cruz (10th, 115). Gonzales wrestler Clarissa Rico qualified for CCS after placing seventh at 110 pounds. Soledad’s Natalie Ramirez placed second at 235 pounds to qualify for the CCS finals.

In the boys’ division, Josiah Rosales-Garcia of Gonzales was the highest placer, finishing fourth in the 215-pound weight class. Greenfield’s Jesse Chavez placed at 150, and teammate Kevin Cruz placed eighth at 132.

The CCS Masters wrestling championships for boys and girls will take place this Saturday at Independence High School in San Jose.
