SALINAS VALLEY — Gonzales High senior Josiah Rosales-Garcia and Soledad High sophomore Natalie Ramirez both placed at last weekend’s Mid-Cals Classic wrestling tournament at Gilroy High School.
Rosales-Garcia earned a sixth-place medal after going 5-2 in the 215-pound weight class at the tournament. This is the second medal that Rosales-Garcia has won at the prestigious Mid-Cals meet. Teammate Gabriel Prieto went 4-2 in the 167-pound weight class at Mid-Cals.
Ramirez placed fifth in the girls’ part of the tournament and finished with a 3-2 record in the 235-pound weight class. Ramirez has won a medal in all the tournaments she has wrestled in this season for Soledad.
The Mid-Cals meet in Gilroy attracted 123 schools as the host Mustangs were the event’s first-place team followed by Buchanan and Los Gatos.
The Gonzales girls’ wrestling team hosted a dual meet on Tuesday at the Roger Fernando Gym in Gonzales. The Spartans were scheduled to wrestle Pacific Grove and Seaside. Gonzales will wrestle at the Judy Rider Memorial Tournament on Saturday in Hollister.
The King City boys’ wrestling team will participate at the Colt Invitational at South San Francisco and the girls’ team will wrestle at the Judy Rider Memorial.
On Wednesday, the Gonzales boys are participating in the Cypress Division Tournament at St. Francis High School.
In other Pacific Coast Athletic League dual meets this week: Soledad hosts Alisal on Wednesday; and Greenfield will wrestle King City on Wednesday at Rancho San Juan in Salinas.
