GONZALES — The Monterey College of Law is offering legal advice about immigration, guardianship, small claims and more on Monday, Wednesdays and Sundays.
“For the past couple months, we’ve been coming to St. Theodore’s Church on Wednesdays and we’ve been providing information on immigration,” said Joseph Belmont, attorney from Monterey College of Law. “We are going to up that and provide a legal aid clinic ranging from immigration to small claims to collections, guardianship.”
Because Wednesdays are the middle of the work week and the difficulty in getting the word out about the legal services, the Monterey College of Law is going to add Sundays as well.
“A lot of the workshops are already established with the Monterey College of Law,” said Geraline Edwards, attorney with the college. “We have different workshops every week.”
Edwards and Belmont are hoping to bring some law students from the Monterey College of Law with them and a supervising attorney will also be available to give proper legal advice.
“Our main goal is to provide legal aid for those who need it and to help with the fear in this community, especially with immigration,” said Edwards.
Edwards is also available on Mondays from 4 to 6 p.m. at St. Theodore’s Church.
