GONZALES — Divisional play began last week for the Gonzales High girls volleyball team in the Cypress Division. The Spartans are still looking for a win as they lost by 3-1 scores to the Soledad High Aztecs and the Pajaro Valley Grizzlies.

“We were at Soledad last Tuesday,” said Gonzales head coach Desiree Baltazar. “With great defense by our setter Jackie Leon and Genesis Guerrero. We battled but had trouble finding our serve receive game. At Pajaro Valley on Thursday we upped our intensity and our found and receive game. Sophomore libero Annabel Uribe blanketed the backrow racking up 25 digs while junior Madisyn Schweitzer logged 16 kills. It was a whole team effort.”

Yesterday, the Spartans hosted the North Monterey County Condors and will play the Robert Louis Stevenson Pirates tomorrow at Pebble Beach.
