SALINAS VALLEY — Last week there was plenty of volleyball action for the South Monterey County high school teams.

King City plays in the Gabilan Division and has five games remaining in the regular season. Soledad, Gonzales and Greenfield play in the Mission Division, with four games remaining in the regular season.

King City Mustangs had a .500 record last week, winning 3-1 at home against Santa Catalina and losing 3-2 to Monte Vista Christian.

In the game with Santa Catalina, Stephanie Velasquez led King City with 34 assists and 17 digs, Alizah Carrillo finished with 15 digs and had three service aces and Morgan Hancock led the team with 10 kills and four service aces. Against Monte Vista, Velasquez had 48 assists and 33 digs and Avery Munoz led the Mustangs with 17 kills and added 19 digs.

King City hosted Hollister on Tuesday night and will travel to Carmel on Thursday.

Gonzales is in third place in the Mission Division with a 6-3 mark and is 9-7 overall. In last week’s 3-1 victory over visiting Everett Alvarez, Breannalee Tello had 39 assists and Maricruz Bibriesca added 26 assists.

The Spartans played at Monterey on Tuesday and will host the Greenfield Bruins on Thursday.

Greenfield is in sixth place in the Mission with a 2-8 record and 5-15 overall. Last Tuesday the Bruins lost 3-0 to Watsonville at home. Arlene Cruz led Greenfield with 15 digs and combined with Lizbeth Perez for 10 kills. Anabella Ramirez had 14 digs and Ashley Ramos added 11 digs.

Greenfield hosted the Soledad Aztecs on Tuesday night and will play in Gonzales on Thursday.

Soledad is in fifth place in the Mission Division at 4-6 and has a 10-11 overall mark. Last week the Aztecs defeated Everett Alvarez on the road and lost by a 3-0 score to the Monterey Toreadores in Soledad.

The Aztecs conclude the week by hosting Watsonville on Thursday.
