SALINAS VALLEY — Soledad High’s volleyball team had a 2-1 record for the week, beating Oakwood at home last Monday by a 3-1 score, losing by a 3-0 score to Monterey at home on Wednesday and completing the week with a 3-0 victory at home against the Greenfield Bruins.

The Aztecs, 7-7 overall and 2-2 in the Mission Division, played Tuesday at Watsonville, and will host the Alisal Trojans on Thursday in the Aztec gym.

Greenfield played three games last week, losing to visiting Monterey 0-3, visiting Alisal 0-3 and on the road to Soledad 0-3.

In the game with Monterey, Layla Rodriguez led Greenfield with eight kills and added five blocks. Ashley Ramos led the Bruins with 29 digs. Against Alisal, Rodriguez had five kills, four digs and three blocks. 

Greenfield hosted the Gonzales Spartans on Tuesday night for their only game of the week.

Gonzales began last week with a 3-0 win over North Salinas of the Cypress Division in the Viking gym, and followed that with a 3-0 victory at home against division foe Everett Alvarez.

Maricruz Bibriesca led the Spartans with 10 kills against Everett Alvarez, and Alitzel Mauro-Perez led the team with 18 assists. Breannalee Tello added 25 digs.

The Spartans concluded the busy week with a 3-1 home loss to the Monterey Toreadores.

King City’s volleyball team is 2-2 in the Gabilan Division of the Pacific Coast Athletic League and 7-5 overall after a recent win against Santa Catalina and a loss to Monte Vista Christian.

The Mustangs beat the Santa Catalina Cougars by a 3-0 score on Sept. 18. Hollyn Hearne had 11 kills and six digs and Avery Munoz had seven kills.

Monte Vista Christian won the Sept. 24 match between the Mustang teams by a 3-1 score. Hearne led the team with 14 kills and added 16 digs. Munoz finished the game with 13 kills and 16 digs.

King City will host Salinas High on Thursday in the Mustang gym.
