GREENFIELD — Greenfield High girls’ volleyball team is 4-0 in the Cypress Division and improved to 13-2 overall with wins last week against Pacific Collegiate in Santa Cruz and at home over Notre Dame.

In the 3-0 victory in Santa Cruz, the Lady Bruins swept the Pumas (25-16, 25-11, 25-22) and were led by Aleena Salas (12 kills and six service aces), Jocelyn Mendoza (23 assists) and Emily Soto (eight kills and six service aces).

Then, at home last Friday with the Spirits, Salas had a game-high 32 kills and added five service aces in the Bruins’ 3-1 win. Mendoza led Greenfield with 36 assists, Layla Rodriguez had seven kills and six blocks, and Emily Soto added 10 kills.

On Tuesday in Watsonville, the Lady Bruins took on the St. Francis Sharks (after press deadlines). On Thursday, Greenfield will travel to Salinas to play Rancho San Juan.

SOLEDAD

At home last week, the Soledad Aztecs picked up wins against the Seaside Spartans and the Everett Alvarez Eagles. Soledad beat the Spartans 3-1 and shut out the Eagles, 3-0.

The Aztecs were led offensively by Liliana Ramirez, Valeria Segura, Sarahi Fernandez and Delyah Ocampo. On the defensive side, standouts were Camryn Gudino and Giselle Zepeda.

Against the Eagles, Ramirez, Segura and Ocampo stood out on offense, and Aliyah Velarde, Layla Rodriguez and Camila Lopez were defensive leaders.

On Wednesday night, Soledad will play the Palma Chieftains at home, and then will conclude the week with a home game on Friday against the Alisal Trojans.

GONZALES

The Gonzales Spartans split last week’s divisional games, beating the Palma Chieftains in a five-set match last Tuesday and falling in five sets last Thursday to the visiting Alisal Trojans.

In the Palma match, Angelina Navarro led Gonzales with 13 kills, five blocks and four service aces, and Priscilla Hurtado and Ashley Leon combined for 33 assists. Breyannalee Tello added 21 digs.

In the home game with the Alisal, Navarro had a complete game with 16 kills, five aces, six blocks and seven digs. Karisma Cabada and Priscilla Fierro combined for eight kills and nine service aces, and Tello and Maryanne Camarena combined for 56 digs. Gonzales closed out the week by placing fourth at the Everett Alvarez Classic Tournament and finished with a 2-2 record.

Gonzales played at Watsonville on Tuesday and will travel to the Monterey Peninsula to battle Seaside on Friday.
